$30 million donation for Vancouver
A Vancouver anonymous couple donated to their city $30 million to help reopen heritage building Taylor Manor serving as a shelter for the elderly and the homeless since 1915. At present this institution continues to serve as housing facility for low-income and homeless. Taylor Manor can accommodate 56 people, who suffer from various mental illnesses. At this time the shelter is experiencing some financial problems. The building on Boundary Road was named Taylor Manor to honour eight-term Vancouver mayor Louis D. Taylor, who died in poverty at age 89. Renovation already started inside the building. It is planned to upgrade the front of the building, repair the roof, install new windows and blinds. The shelter is also planning to purchase new furniture.
