Initiative of canadian journalist Kalle Lasn: abandon any purchases
In many countries people refuse to do any purchases today. Canadian journalist of Estonian origin, Kalle Lasn, became the initiator of this idea in 2001. In his opinion, thus people can muse about thoughtless and excess consumption. Date of the action was not chosen casually. In the fourth Friday of November, after the US Thanksgiving Day, the traditional Christmas sales begin in many countries. This day is called "Black Friday."
Stores usually make from 20% to 50% of its annual earnings in the first day of the Christmas sales. Discounts apply on clothes, shoes, and Christmas gifts. These days people rush to buy everything that they need, and everything of what they dreamed: fur coats, furniture, electronics, cars, dishes and so on.
However, Canadian journalist urged the public to ignore the "Black Friday" and to refuse from any purchases this day. He claims that the cause of financial crisis is not in a liquidity or unregulated markets, but in the existing culture of consumption, when purchases are made thoughtlessly.
